Oliver
Schmidt aka Ben Delay, born in the winter of 1976 has been
working for more than ten years now in the DJ Industry. He
spent his first few years arranging and spinning at various
parties in the “Bergischen Land”. In 1999, Ben
worked for the first time as a DJ in the former “Visions”
Nightclub (now called H90) in Cologne, at one of the “Boogie
Night” parties. After performing a splendid set, he
was immediately hired as a resident DJ in the club. Since
then, he has created unique House music, from Disco French
to Progressive House. By exhibiting this craft in every well
known club in Cologne, for instance the “Neuschwanstein”,
“Apollo”, “Lulu”, etc., Ben has proven
himself worthy in the dance scene.

Ben
Delay has been one of the resident team members for the already
legendary “Miami Beats” parties, which are taking
place every month in the “Tiefenrausch”, one of
the most popular clubs in Germany. His duties there are not
only to drive the dancing crowd wild, but also to be responsible
for booking the DJs. |

One
of his most important accomplishments were his sets in this
club, which helped qualify him for the booking at the “Snowzone”
in Val Thorens (France) in the Winter of 2002. After spinning
there with popular DJs including Tom Novy, Phil Fuldner and
the Discoboys, he was booked instantly for the following tour.
In addition to being played on the tour, one of his tracks was
included on the official “Mix CD” for the “Snowzone”
compilation. |

Ben
had been working hard on his own productions during the last
few years, and now it was only a matter of time before his tracks
received a major label release. After being signed to the Cologne
label “DG”, he released his much acclaimed “Sugarland”
EP. Shortly after, with help of partner Adam Chinch, he produced
his next EP under the project synonym “The Sugarland Gang
– Pizza EP”. According to the “Raveline”
publication, it was with an edition of nearly 3000 12-inch LPs,
one of the top five selling House LPs in 2002 at Germany’s
largest internet shop, ‘Web-records.com’. One of
his tracks, “Whoop”, was also licensed for the “Tiefenrausch”
compilation, mixed by Phil Fuldner and Rene Suess. As a consequence
of these productions, Ben attracted the attention of Sharam
Jey, who took one of his remixes on the Maxi CD “Sharam
Jey- Straight Up”, which jumped into the top ten of the
DDC. Then, in spring 2002, Ben Delay finally created his own
label “Sugarland Records”. His LP “The Sugarland
Gang – Down Town EP” immediately climbed into 4th
place of the German DJ charts, “Dance Fifty”. Due
to the increasing popularity of the label, some major acts recognized
Delay. There is much to be excited about with the new release
of the “Sugarland Record”. So watch out… More
to come… |
